Can I just say "Thank Goodness for Skype"!!!!!!!!!
We just love Skype! We had it since 2005 I think, and it had served us very well and allowed us to save a ton of money. Thanks to Skype, our kids are able to maintain a relationship with their Grandparents; they can not only hear them but also see them, which I think help them a lot for this trip. When we moved to Belgium from Tahiti, Taiamani was 18 months old and Ilyah was not even 3 months old, so they didn't remember my parents much. As they got older; they've only known their grandparents through Skype and we're a bit shy when they saw them in real last June when they came to visit us in Belgium. It took some time for them to warm up to their grandparents.
They then left and we continued to talk to them via Skype every sunday and see them. When the kids met their Pépé and Mémé this time around; they quickly warmed up to them.
Now, when we talk via Skype, we talk for over an hour every Sunday, which would cost a whole lot of money via the landlines.
Since we've been in Tahiti, I've been "skyping" Juri every morning (evening for him) and evening (morning at work for him). When it's evening for Juri, we would talk for well over an hour, until he goes to sleep. The kids can still have a relationship with their Papa (and vice versa)and I can still hear and see my Russian Prince and tell him how much I miss him and love him despite the distance. It also helps Juri not to feel too lonely during these 6 weeks before he can join us here. What a big saving this is!
Skype is a great invention for our International Family.
