While I was putting Ilyah to sleep for nap, I was surfing on the internet and stumbled on a post saying that President Gordon B. Hinckley had passed away yesterday evening. I was shocked. It just feels weird to know that this great man is not with us anymore.
For those who don't know him, he was the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints, our prophet today. He died at the age of 97 and led the Church for almost 13 years and was the 15th President of the Church.
I always had fond feelings for President Hinckley, probably because he was the Prophet at the time I got baptized. Also, when Juri and I graduated in December 2004 from BYUH, he came to talk at the commencement and delivered a speech called "Be not afraid, only believe ". We felt so blessed to have him at this time of our life because from that time on, life got really crazy and we were constantly faced making difficult decisions that would have great impact on us. We tried not to be afraid, but only believe that things would work out in the end. If you want to read a little about that talk, click here.
Every General Conference that we've watched, we always had a pinch in our hearts when President Hinckley would talk. He was a great man, and I'm grateful for all that he did for the Church. When I think about him, I think about the temples that were built while he was at the head of the Church, of the wonderful Family Proclamation, and of his sense of humor.
We are really sad for his death, but rejoice with the knowledge that he is now with his eternal companion in a better place.
He will be greatly missed.
