Yesterday was Mardi Gras ("Fat Tuesday" in english) here in Europe. They probably called it that way because we usually eat a lot of "crepes" and sweets.
I didn't grow up with Halloween but I did grow up with the Carnival, which is going on at this time of the year. We would dress up for the day, just like Halloween. Taiamani celebrated the Carnival last friday at school, and she went with her Halloween costume: the Lady Bug. Most of the little girls , if not all of them, we're dressed up as little princesses and boys were mostly dressed up as spiderman (which scared Ilyah a lot). Parents were asked to make some crepes to bring to school. They also had some cookies and cakes, mostly from expatriates who didn't know how to make crepes. The teacher told me later that the kids were all wired with sugar for naptime.
While I was watching the french news yesterday, I saw a report about my favorite Carnival of all: the Carnival of Venice. The Rio of Janeiro's Carnival is also a great one, full of colors, of samba music and of course half naked ladies dancing. But the Venice Carnival is just amazingly beautiful in my opinion. I would love to go and see it and take a lot of pictures, but my dream would be to participate in it.
I love the originality of the costumes and how they sometimes tell a story or are inspired by a famous tale. I love the masks. I love all the colors from the costumes and especially to see all the glitters. I especially love to see couples and how they match. It's just beautiful (can you tell I love this carnival!).
