Sleep training has always been a difficult subject for me because I never liked letting my babies to cry, which kind of backfires on me often. The training lasted 2 weeks, which were the longest ones in my life. The first week went somewhat fine, there were some crying, from Ilyah, but no longer then 15-20 min. There were some night wakings too, but he would go quite quickly back to sleep; around 5min or so of crying. However the 2nd week was horrible. I honestly thought that it can only get better; I never thought that it could go downhill from there.
Ilyah would cry hysterically for like an hour or more. I used to do walk in/ walk out but after 1hr, Juri took over for the night and as the days went by, he would just stop going in and just leave Ilyah cry to sleep. After a day or two like this, Ilyah started to go in Taiamani's bed and sleep with her. So after reading ten thousand bedtime stories, we put them in Taiamani's bed and they go peacefully to sleep. Now Ilyah just sleeps through. I asked Taiamani if she likes to have Ilyah with her and she responded "yes".
When we tell them it's time to go to sleep, Ilyah automatically says "Ilyah dodo ('sleep' in childish french) with Amy (Mani)" (my kids don't say 'I' when talking about themselves but say their name instead like 'I want some chocolate' they say 'Mani/Ilyah wants some chocolate'.
Once in bed, Ilyah asks Taiamani to put the blanket on him. Our kids don't always get along but some rare times, Taiamani can be such a great big sister.
As for Juri and I, we're relearning to sleep without kids in our bed. It'll take time because we're still sleeping squeezed to each other and there's still a third unused pillow on our bed.
